Brad Wieck Charges from Last to 3rd After Losing Control of the Car Early at Lawrenceburg

Written By: BB1

(June 1st, 2009) – There were 27 mods on hand at the famed Lawrenceburg Speedway Saturday night May 30, 2009. Brad drew a seven, which placed him fourth in the first heat. At the start of the heat race the #3 of Jeff Harris who started 2nd jumped out to the lead with Brad on his tail. Brad tried running low a few times but just couldn't make the pass. There was a caution with about three laps to go. On the restart Brad moved to the high side and completed the pass on Harris coming out of turn 2 and didn't look back for the heat race win.

The green flag would drop for the feature event with multiple time track champion Brad Wieck on the pole alongside Scotty Mattlin. Mattlin would charge to the early lead but Wieck was in hot pursuit. Just as Brad was making his move heading into turn 4, he would lose control of the race car and loop it, sending him to the rear of the field for the restart. As Brad started his charge to the front picking off a car a lap, Mattlin and Jeff Harris, battled for the lead, Derek Groomer who started inside row 4, was moving his way to the front as well. He wrestled the lead away from Mattlin on lap 9, and would not look back. Rick Bingham was the only other driver to challenge Groomer, but Bingham spun out in turn 2 trying to make a bid for the lead. Derek's older brother, Ralph finished second followed by Brad Wieck who came all the way back from the tail to third. A great run for the B&B Motorsports Team.
